MENGGUNDULI RAMBUT UNTUK KEBAIKAN

Beberapa lama lalu salah satu mall di Singapura, di panggung yang berada di tengah-tengah mallnya, ada banyak orang yang sedang berkumpul di sana.  Ternyata di tengah mall tersebut ada satu program yaitu "Hair for Hope" di mana banyak orang sedang mengantri untuk mencukur rambutnya sampai gundul.  Tujuan dari program ini adalah untuk mengundang masyarakat untuk ikut mendukung para penderita kanker yang seringkali harus kehilangan rambutnya oleh proses pengobatan yang dijalani.

Dari banyak orang yang mengantri untuk menggunduli rambutnya, ternyata beberapa wanita yang berambut panjang yang bersedia untuk mengunduli rambutnya sebagai rasa solidaritas bagi para penderita kanker.  Saya sangat terkesan akan kesediaan mereka untuk berkorban dengan menggunduli kepala mereka untuk memberi semangat kepada para penderita kanker.

Kata berkorban artinya rela menyerahkan sesuatu yang kita anggap berharga dalam kehidupan kita.  Kata berkorban bukanlah berarti melepaskan sesuatu yang tidak berharga atau tidak berguna bagi kita, seperti kita membuang sampah.  Berkorban memerlukan satu keputusan yang seringkali sulit bagi kita, karena kita memerlukan atau menyayangi hal tersebut.  Berkorban juga berarti melepaskan sesuatu untuk kepentingan orang lain, dan bukan untuk kepentingan diri kita sendiri.

Waktu saya merenungkan hal ini, saya membayangkan akan pengorbanan Yesus di kayu salib bagi kita semua.  Tuhan Yesus tidak mengorbankan rambutnya, tetapi mengorbankan nyawanya untuk kita semua.  Tuhan Yesus berkorban untuk kebaikan kita semua, yaitu dengan menebus semua dosa kita di kayu salib.  Biarlah kita kembali merenungkan dan bersyukur akan apa yang Tuhan Yesus telah lakukan dalam kehidupan kita; dan biarlah kita menghargai pengorbanannya dengan memberikan hidup kita untuk kemuliaanNya.

"Dia yang menebus hidupmu dari lobang kubur, yang memahkotai engkau dengan kasih setia dan rahmat (Mazmur 103:4)

MENGAPA HARUS BELAJAR

Pada waktu anak saya mulai sekolah dan gurunya mulai memberikan pekerjaan rumah, anak saya suka bertanya mengapa dia harus belajar.  Anak saya masih belum mengerti mengapa harus menyelesaikan pekerjaan rumahnya dan harus menghafal pelajaran dari gurunya.  Pertanyaan tersebut timbul karena anak saya masih belum mengerti pentingnya untuk menimba ilmu dan memiliki bekal untuk masa depan mereka.  Pada saat itu, anak saya, karena umurnya masih kecil, hanya berpikir untuk bisa bermain saja, dan menganggap kalau belajar itu merupakan suatu kesukaran bagi dia.

Seringkali dalam kehidupan kita, kesukaran dan permasalahan bisa terjadi dalam hidup kita.  Mungkin kita juga bertanya-tanya mengapa saya harus mengalami kesukaran dan permasalahan tersebut.  Mungkin juga kita bertanya-tanya mengapa Tuhan tidak meluputkan kita dari segala kesukaran dan permasalahan yang bisa datang dalam kehidupan kita.  Dalam keadaan demikian, kita perlu menyadari kalau kesukaran dan permasalahan akan mengajarkan banyak hal dalam kehidupan kita.

Pada waktu Tuhan mengijinkan kita melewati kesukaran atau permasalahan, Tuhan mengajarkan kita untuk memandang dan bergantung kepadaNya.  Kita juga belajar untuk mempunyai iman dan bagaimana kesukaran tersebut akan membangun iman kita.  Kesukaran juga akan memberikan hikmat dan pengalaman yang akan menjadi bekal dalam kehidupan kita, dan bahkan bisa dipakai untuk menolong mereka yang sedang mengalami kesukaran yang pernah kita alami.

Biarlah kita memandang kesukaran sebagai alat bagi Tuhan untuk meningkatkan iman dan supaya kita bisa melihat mujizat dan pertolongan Tuhan dinyatakan dalam kehidupan kita.  Jika kita percaya akan hal tersebut, kita akan menghadapi kesukaran dengan penuh keyakinan dan pengharapan di dalam Tuhan.

"Aku telah mencari Tuhan, lalu Ia menjawab aku, dan melepaskan aku dari segala kegentaranku" (Mazmur 34:5)

TAKUT SERANGGA

Anak sulung saya, Rachel, suka berteriak kalau melihat serangga, bahkan bisa sampai lari keluar dari kamarnya.  Sedangkan adiknya, Michelle, tidak takut sama sekali kalau melihat serangga dan bahkan suka memberitahu Rachel untuk tidak takut.  Michelle beberapa kali memberitahu Rachel kalau serangga itu tidak ada apa-apanya dibandingkan dengan ukuran tubuh Rachel.

Melihat sikap mereka terhadap serangga, saya melihat ada dua pandangan yang berbeda dari kedua anak saya.  Yang satu melihat serangga sebagai suatu permasalahan yang besar, dan yang satu lagi melihat kalau serangga tersebut adalah suatu permasalahan yang sepele dan mudah diatasi.

Waktu saya merenungkan kejadian ini, saya pikir kita juga seringkali berteriak-teriak kepada Tuhan atas permasalahan kita yang sebetulnya tidak ada apa-apanya dibandingkan dengan kuasa Tuhan.  

Pada waktu mengalami permasalahan, kita juga seringkali ingin menghadapinya dan malah melarikan dari dari permasalahan, seperti anak saya keluar dari kamar pada waktu melihat serangga.  Sebetulnya selama kita masih hidup, kita masih terus akan menghadapi permasalahan-permasalahan dalam hidup ini.

Sikap yang terbaik dalam menghadapi permasalahan adalah dengan datang kepada kepada Tuhan, dan menghadapi permasalahan tersebut bersama-sama.  Jika kita memandang akan kuasa dan kemampuan Tuhan yang tanpa batas, kita akan memandang permasalahan kita sebagai sesuatu yang akan kita hadapi dan atasi.

MEMAKAI KACAMATA

Beberapa minggu lalu, anak saya berkata kalau dia sudah tidak bisa melihat dengan jelas, dan sepertinya pandangannya sedikit buram.  Oleh karena itu, istri saya akhirnya membawa dia untuk memeriksa matanya ke dokter mata.  Ternyata memang hasil dari dokter mata menunjukkan kalau anak saya harus memakai kacamata untuk bisa melihat dengan jelas.  Akhirnya kita membelikan dia kacamata dan akhirnya sekarang sudah bisa melihat dengan jelas kembali.

Fungsi dari kacamata adalah untuk membantu mata kita untuk bisa melihat dengan baik.  Ada kacamata untuk membantu kita memandang lebih jauh, ada juga kacamata untuk membantu kita melihat hal-hal yang dekat dengan mata kita, contohnya adalah kacamata untuk membaca.  Pada waktu seseorang memakai kacamatanya, pandangannya akan menjadi lebih baik dan bisa melihat keadaan sekitarnya dengan baik.

Dalam kehidupan kerohanian, kita juga memerlukan pandangan yang lebih baik untuk bisa mengerti tujuan dan rencana Tuhan.  Seringkali kita tidak bisa mengerti dan menebak apa yang akan terjadi di depan kita.  Kita juga seringkali tidak bisa mengerti arti dan makna dari segala hal yang sedang terjadi dalam diri kita.  Oleh karena itu, kita memerlukan kacamata iman, yang akan menolong kita untuk mempunyai pandangan seperti yang yang Tuhan lihat akan kehidupan kita.  

Iman akan menolong kita untuk bisa mempunyai masa depan yang penuh pengharapan.  Iman juga akan menolong kita untuk bisa mengerti bahwa apa yang sedang terjadi dalam kehidupan kita, semuanya ada dalam rencana dan kendalinya Tuhan.  Marilah kita tidak melihat dengan mata jasmani kita, tetapi biarlah penglihatan kita yang terbatas dibantu dengan kacamata iman yang akan memberikan pengharapan akan penyertaan dan pertolongan Tuhan akan kehidupan kita.

MASIH DALAM PERBAIKAN

Waktu saya dalam perjalanan menuju ke suatu tempat, saya melihat ada tempat-tempat yang sedang ditutup, karena sedang membangun rel kereta api di Singapura.  Perusahaan kontraktornya memasang papan pengumuman dengan tulisan, "Under Construction" atau masih dalam perbaikan.  Artinya mereka sedang membangun sesuatu yang akan bisa dinikmati dan dipergunakan oleh masyarakat.

Saya juga memikirkan akan kehidupan kita yang harus diperbaharui terus-menerus.  Kehidupan kita pun sedang dalam proses "Under Construction" artinya sedang dalam proses perbaikan terus menerus untuk bisa mencapai tujuan Tuhan dan menjadi berkat bagi banyak orang.

Dalam kehidupan kita dan realita yang kita hadapi, begitu banyak cobaan dan godaan yang bisa membuat dasar kehidupan kita menjadi goyah dan akhirnya tidak bisa mencapai tujuan Tuhan.  Biarlah kita terus berdoa dan meminta Tuhan menuntun kehidupan, pikiran dan perbuatan kita sehingga kita bisa terus diperbaharui untuk menjadi manusia yang lebih baik.  Kita juga perlu mengambil waktu untuk bisa membaca dan merenungkan Firman Tuhan yang akan menolong dan menuntun kehidupan kita untuk bisa diperbaharui terus menerus.  Mari kita menjalani kehidupan yang terus diperbaiki dan diperbaharui, dan kita akan menjadi berkat bagi banyak orang dan memuliakan namaNya.
